Dates

May 25

Times

5pm - 8pm

Location

James Gilmore Elementary, Elsmore Road, Richmond, BC, Canada Event Website

Gilmore Then and Now will make lasting memories for Canada’s 150th birthday by hosting a neighbourhood party, celebrating our aboriginal roots, commemorating Richmond pioneer farmer, James Gilmore and his family and exploring the history of the school named for him. The festivities and program will include a First Nations youth dance performance, games, prizes fun and food. The community surrounding James Gilmore Elementary School will be invited, to reflect the cultural diversity now found here and to build connections between newcomers and locals.

The entire event will expand understanding of local history and how it ties into the greater history of this province and country and will be conducted in English and French.

In addition to this amazing event, we will create legacies in form of the planting of a “Canada 150 Tree”, install a Friendship Bench, mount a plaque paying tribute to James Gilmore’s grandson (killed in the Second World War) and create historical panels.
