Global smorgasbord to be served up at Richmond World Festival

An international FEASTival of Flavours with more than 50 food trucks and a Culinary Stage featuring top local chefs will bring the tastes of the globe to the Richmond World Festival on Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2 in Minoru Park, presented by Coast Capital Savings.

This year’s Culinary Stage chefs bring worldwide experience and diverse cultural influences. Chef Max Straczek travelled around Europe and opened Poland’s first Michelin Star restaurant before returning home to Canada, where he is now Concept Chef at Vancouver’s acclaimed Fable Diner. Chef John Chang of JC Roti has won awards for his outstanding roti and has worked in Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian and European restaurants. Chef Kimiko Suzuki was born in Wakayama, Japan, and now shares her traditional Japanese cooking techniques as an instructor and food writer. The will be joined by fellow chefs Sanjay Pandey, Raj Thandi and Tammy Wood in sharing signature dishes with a focus on locally-sourced food and a fusion theme.

After the Culinary Stage team gets their mouths watering, festival goers can head on over to the FEASTival of Flavours, an international food truck festival with more than 50 vendors. Randomly stick a pin in a world map and you’ll likely find the location’s native food represented here. Mouth watering choices include tacos, dumplings, dim sum, curries, barbecue meat, mac and cheese, perogies, waffles, cannoli, and much more. There’s also plenty of traditional festival fare from hot dogs and burgers to kettle corn and cotton candy.

A free celebration of music, food and culture, the Richmond World Festival will feature over 75 music and dance performances on nine stages, including headline shows by popular Canadian rockers Tokyo Police Club and Korean hip hop star Verbal Jint.
Other festival highlights include the Global Village with interactive cultural activities and performances; the Bamboo Theatre and Digital Carnival, both offering diverse and innovative performances; Kids World children’s activity area; the Artisan Marketplace with over 50 exhibitors; and Imagination World at the Richmond Public Library.
